GOsC Strategy 2024-2030 published

The Strategy, which takes the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) from April 2024 through to March 2030, sets the direction of our work and what we hope to achieve, and is shaped by our values.

The values, recently agreed by Council, underpin the way we work with patients and the public, osteopaths and key partners as well as how we work within our organisation. These are the first set of values agreed and published for the GOsC.

The Strategy also provides a framework for the monitoring of GOsC’s performance by Council.

The goals and activities we plan to achieve are divided into the following three key priority areas:

• Strengthening Trust
  We will work to enhance and improve our relationships with those we work with so together we can help protect patients and the public.
  
  
• Championing Inclusivity
  It is important to us that people who interact with us, or who work for us, can be their true selves and that we understand and break down any barriers which prevent them from doing so.
  
  
• Embracing innovation
  We will continually seek out and take opportunities to improve what we do and how we do it, so we continue to improve as an organisation.

GOsC’s Chief Executive and Registrar Matthew Redford said: ‘Publication of our new Strategy follows 18 months of work including a public consultation and I am pleased that we are able to set out a clear direction for the next six years. The Strategy has been informed by the feedback we received from stakeholders during the consultation process and I thank all those who took the time to respond.’

During the public consultation, we heard from osteopaths, patients and stakeholders. The changes we made to the Strategy as a result of this feedback include:

• Being more explicit about what we hope to achieve with the Recognition of Professional Qualifications.
• Being clear about the terminology we use in the Strategy.
• Ensuring patients are represented as part of our success measures when trying to demonstrate trust.
• Being explicit that we will publish the research we commission and the results of any analysis we undertake using equality monitoring data.
