Renewing your registration
Renewing your registration is easy. Everything you need to renew or update your registration status is available in this section. You must renew your registration every year to be able to practice as an osteopath and remain on the Register.
You can also renew your registration in Welsh. Use the Cymraeg button at the top of the page to view this information and renew your registration in Welsh. Find out more about our Welsh language services.
Your registration renewal date
If you first registered on or before 9 May 2000, your renewal date is 9 May. Otherwise, it is the date that you first registered with the GOsC.
Your renewal date is also available on the Home page of the o zone.
Please make sure we have your current email address on our records. We will send email reminders two months before your renewal of registration is due. It is very important that you renew on time, if you wish to remain on the Register.
There are two ways in which you can pay your registration fees:
- Paying in one lump sum: If you have previously paid your registration fee in one lump sum and wish to continue doing so, go to the Renewal form page. After completing the renewal form, you will be directed to a payment page where you can make your lump sum payment.
- Paying the registration fee in monthly instalments: If you have an existing monthly Direct Debit in place, you will just need to complete and submit your renewal form online. To do this, go to the Renewal form page. Paying by monthly direct debit incurs a small additional administrative fee, this is laid down in legislation. The cost is spread across your monthly payment plan.
If you have previously paid your registration fee in one lump sum but now wish to set up a monthly Direct Debit, you will need to complete and return a Direct Debit mandate.
Once we receive this, we will change your payment method and let you know when you can submit the renewal form online.
Current Fees
We’ve outlined the registration fees for both lump sum and monthly payments below:
Registration level (lump sum)
Year 1, entry – £320
Year 2, practising – £430
Year 2, reduced rate – £215
Year 3, practising – £570
Year 3, reduced rate – £320
Registration level (direct debit)
Year 1, entry – £330
Year 2, practising – £445
Year 2, reduced rate – £225
Year 3, practising – £590
Year 3, reduced rate – £330
Entry rate: The entry level of registration fee applies to newly registered osteopaths during their first year of practice.
Practising rate: The practising rate of registration fee applies to all osteopaths in the UK, including those working both full and part-time. The rate is slightly reduced in the second year of practice for newly registered osteopaths.
Reduced rates: If you are non-practising, which means having no clinical contact with patients, or practising outside the UK for a period of three continuous months or more within your registration year, you will qualify for a reduced registration fee.
Switching to Direct Debit from lump sum
If you are paying your fee online in one payment but wish to change to paying in instalments by Direct Debit, you need to complete a Direct Debit mandate form which will inform us of your wish to switch to Direct Debit payments. We will make the necessary changes and let you know when you can renew your registration online.
Please note that our legislation requires that there is a small additional administrative fee for paying by monthly Direct Debit.
Changing your direct debit details
If you pay for your registration fee in monthly instalments and would like to change your direct debit details you will need to complete a Direct Debit mandate form. Once we receive this, we will update your bank details.
Updating your bank details
If you need to update your bank details please complete the Direct Debit mandate form.
Renewing your registration checklist
As part of your renewal of registration form, you are required to declare that you have Professional Indemnity Insurance. You must have insurance with a minimum cover of £5 million. See the professional indemnity insurance requirements for further information.
If your registration status is listed as non-practising, you must declare that you are still non-practising and have run-off cover in place. If your registration status is listed as practising overseas, you must declare that you are still practising outside the UK
On your renewal of registration form, you will need to declare the CPD activities you have completed over the previous 12 months. This includes the number of hours of CPD and which elements of the CPD scheme you have completed. You are not required to submit your CPD records as part of the renewal of registration process.
Once you have completed your annual registration renewal, your annual certificate of registration will be available to download. This certificate will expire on your renewal date the following year.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are not required for annual renewal. However, if you require an Enhanced Check for Regulated Activity, which is the highest level of criminal record check available, we can pass your name and email address to First Advantage, a company that administers Enhanced Checks for Regulated Activity on GOsC’s behalf.
If this is something you require, please email your permission to share your contact details with First Advantage to registration@osteopathy.org.uk.
