The General Osteopathic Council removes Max Charles from its Register of Osteopaths

The PCC found that Mr Charles had behaved in a manner that was sexually motivated while treating a patient. The Committee determined that Mr Charles’s conduct, which included uninvited kissing and touching of a patient, was a gross, flagrant and profound breach of the standards required of a registered osteopath.

In deciding the appropriate sanction, the PCC, chaired by Mr Mark Osborne, concluded that Mr Charles’s conduct was fundamentally incompatible with continued registration.

In reaching its decision, the PCC were of the view that Mr Charles had shown little by way of real intent to address the causes of his behaviour, and concluded that it was necessary to remove Mr Charles’s name from the Register to protect the public, maintain public confidence in the profession and uphold and maintain standards in the profession.

Mr Charles is now unable to practise as an osteopath.

He has 28 days to appeal his removal from the Register, during which time Mr Charles is suspended from the statutory Register of osteopaths with immediate effect.
