Osteopath removed from the Register

The Professional Conduct Committee of the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) ruled on 16 September 2013 that Mr Mark Piraino should be removed from the UK’s statutory Register of Osteopaths.

Practising as an osteopath in Reigate, Surrey, Mr Piraino was convicted in December 2012 of criminal offences and is now serving a four-year prison sentence.

The Committee concluded that Mr Piraino’s criminal offending disclosed behaviour that was completely and fundamentally incompatible with his continuing to practise as an osteopath. He had shown himself willing to abuse his position of trust, positively perpetrate acts causing significant emotional harm to patients, including children, and to seriously disregard the professional standards expected of all osteopaths.

Mr Piraino has a right of appeal against this decision in accordance with section 31 of the Osteopaths Act 1993.
