GOsC meets all Standards of Good Regulation for the fifteenth year running

The Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA) oversees the performance of ten health and social care regulators and, in its latest annual review, has found that the GOsC has met all Standards of Good Regulation for the fifteenth year running. The GOsC continues to be the only health and care regulator with this consistent record.

Every year, the PSA checks the performance of the GOsC and other regulators to ensure they are fulfilling their statutory role of protecting the public. The report provides feedback on what each regulator is doing well and how they can improve in the future.

‘As the Chair of the GOsC, I am delighted we have again met all the PSA’s Standards of Good Regulation. Patients and osteopaths can be confident that the GOsC is a high performing and effective regulator. I would like to thank the staff team, Council and its committees, and our stakeholders for their contribution to this success. We can assure our registrants, the public and all our stakeholders, that we always aim for continuous improvement.’

Chief Executive and Registrar, Matthew Redford, added:

‘That the GOsC has maintained its record of passing all Standards of Good Regulation is an outstanding achievement by my team and one which we do not take for granted. The performance review report highlights the value of regulation through our work in education, standards, and fitness to practise, and we are thrilled this is recognised by the PSA through their independent assessment process.’

The PSA Standards of Good Regulation has 18 standards which cover the core functions of the regulator and include a focus on equality, diversity and inclusion; ensuring that relevant learning from one part of the business is applied to others; and that the regulator consults with all relevant stakeholders. The report also includes a review of general standards, guidance and standards, education and training, registration as well as a targeted review of fitness to practise decisions.
