GOsC meets all Standards of Good Regulation for eleventh year running

The Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA) oversees the performance of ten health and social care regulators and, in its latest annual performance review, has found that the GOsC has met all Standards of Good Regulation for the eleventh year running.

There are 18 Standards of Good Regulation which cover the core functions of the regulator as well as including a focus on equality, diversity and inclusion; ensuring that relevant learning from one part of the business is applied to others; and that the regulator consults with all relevant stakeholders.

Chair of Council, Dr Bill Gunnyeon, said: ‘The Performance Review report published today covers the period when the GOsC was facing the challenges of the evolving COVID-19 crisis. The pandemic had the potential to significantly impact the GOsC and its work and yet, as demonstrated by the PSA report, we have continued to maintain our high standard of performance and demonstrate our credibility as a regulator with a clear focus on public protection.

‘I commend the work of the staff team and all members of the governance structure who, during a very difficult period, rose to the challenge and, working together, delivered an excellent outcome once again.’

Chief Executive and Registrar, Matthew Redford, commented: ‘I welcome the report from the PSA which highlights the collaborative nature of our work across all that we do. I am pleased that our work with patients is recognised alongside our ongoing commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

‘While we reflect and take pride in our work being recognised again with all Standards of Good Regulation being passed, we do not wish to be complacent and already have a number of work streams in progress which will continue to move the GOsC forward, which is a reflection of our determination to seek continuous improvement across all of our regulatory functions, including greater engagement with the public, patients, osteopaths and our stakeholders.’
