GOsC consults on guidance about obtaining patient consent
The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) is inviting views on proposed new guidance for osteopaths relating to the law on consent.
Obtaining Consent expands on existing guidance at Standard A4 of the Osteopathic Practice Standards (OPS)¹. It explains the law relating to patient’s capacity to give consent, as it stands in each of the four UK countries.
The draft guidance Obtaining Consent and information about the consultation is available on the GOsC website at: www.osteopathy.org.uk/news-and-resources/document-library/our-work/obtaining-consent-consultation-document-draft.
The Osteopathic Practice Standards (OPS) set out the standards required of osteopaths to ensure quality care for patients and to protect them from harm. Copies are available to download from the GOsC website at: http://www.osteopathy.org.uk/standards/osteopathic-practice. Hard copies are available on request.
The deadline for responses to this consultation is 16 January 2013.
