GOsC consults on guidance about sanctions in fitness to practise cases

The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) is inviting views on proposed new guidance on Conditions of Practice and Indicative Sanctions for use by the GOsC Professional Conduct Committee (PCC). The consultation closes on 31 May 2013.

All osteopaths registered with us must be fit to practise. This means that they must have the skills, knowledge, good health and good character to do their job safely and effectively. PCC hearings are held to decide whether an osteopath’s fitness to practise is impaired. If the PCC decides that fitness to practise is impaired it can impose a sanction on the osteopath.

The purpose of the new Conditions of Practice Guidance and Indicative Sanctions Guidance is to help the PCC make decisions about imposing sanctions in order to improve consistency, lead to greater transparency and enhance the quality of decisions about sanctions.
