In Conversation with GOsC
Join our presenter, Steven Bettles, as he speaks with colleagues and experts in the osteopathic profession about issues affecting osteopaths, educators, students and patients our work and how we support osteopaths. We’ll also share more about our work as a regulator and answer some of the questions we receive from osteopaths, patients and members of the public.

E01: Patient involvement and shared decision making
In this episode, Steven Bettles, Head of Policy and Education, is joined by Rachel Heatley, previous Senior Policy and Research Officer at GOsC, to discuss how speaking with patients informs our work, and why patient involvement is important. They discuss the various ways GOsC incorporates the patient’s perspective into our work, sharing examples of times patients have helped to inform our work.

E02: Mentoring with Claire Piper
In this episode, Steven Bettles, Head of Policy at GOsC, speaks with fellow osteopath Claire Piper about mentorship. Claire shares why mentorship is really useful, not only to less experienced osteopaths who may be looking for support, but also for the osteopaths who have been in the profession a long time and may benefit from becoming a mentor themselves.

This episode is slightly different to the others, as it was recorded back in September 2018. It’s a discussion with Professor Bill Fulford of the Collaborating Centre for Values Based Practice, and the late and much missed Professor Stephen Tyreman of the University College of Osteopathy, and it explores the concept of values based practice, what this means and how it can be implemented. E05: Understanding the Fitness to Practise process
Steven Bettles, Head of Policy and Education, speaks with Sheleen McCormack, our Director for Fitness to Practise about GOsC’s fitness to practise (FtP) process and also addresses some of the most common misconceptions.
Sheleen shares information about the Independent Support Service (ISS) and how both complainants and osteopaths can be supported during the FtP process.

E06: How research can support working with patients
Steven Bettles speaks with Dr Jerry Draper-Rodi, Director of NCOR, Associate Professor at the University College of Osteopathy, and practising osteopath, about how research can inform day to day practice for osteopaths. They discuss how research can contribute to the whole experience of working with patients and how Jerry’s experience has changed how he works.

E07: Working with neurodivergent patients and colleagues
Steven Bettles speaks with osteopath Rosi Sexton about working with neurodivergent patients and colleagues within osteopathy. Rosi talks about her own journey into osteopathy and her autism and ADHD diagnosis, and how this has impacted and influenced her work with patients, including some of the small adjustments or accommodations practitioners can make when working with neurodivergent patients.

Steven Bettles speaks with President Osteopathy Europe, Hanna Tómasdóttir and GOsC Chief Executive and Registrar, Matthew Redford about some of the universal issues facing osteopath, and why working with partners in other countries benefits the profession. Osteopathy Europe brings together professional associations and regulatory authorities from Europe.
