Senior management team

The Senior Management Team (SMT), comprises the Chief Executive and Registrar, the Director of Education, Standards and Development, and the Director of Fitness to Practise. SMT is responsible, via the Chief Executive, to Council for the GOsC’s day-to-day operations.

The SMT leads staff in all policy and operational activities, and in meeting the GOsC’s statutory duties and charitable requirements. The SMT shares collective responsibility for actions and decisions taken regardless of line management responsibilities.

The Senior Management team is led by Matthew Redford, Chief Executive and Registrar.

Matthew Redford, Chief Executive and Registrar

Matthew Redford holds the formal post of ‘Registrar’ set out in the Osteopaths Act. As well as these duties he is an accountant and leads the SMT and executive team, and is accountable to the GOsC Council for the delivery of the Corporate Strategy, Business Plan and Budget. He also leads on a number of important corporate activities including: governance and reporting; equality and diversity; and data protection. 

Registration 

The Registration team is responsible for maintaining the statutory Register of osteopaths, international registration assessments and compliance, and audit activity for osteopaths already on the Register.

The Registration department processes applications for registration from qualified osteopathy professionals and oversees the annual renewal of registration, including administering and assuring the quality of CPD submissions.

Assurance and Resources

The Assurance and Resources team is responsible for finance, financial audits, facilities and IT functions.

Secretariat

Provides direct support to the Chair, Chief Executive and Registrar, and Council Members. It is responsible for the organisation's human resources functions and for ensuring good corporate governance. The Council and Executive Support Officer organises Council meetings.

Director of Education, Standards and Development – Fiona Browne

Fiona Browne leads the Professional Standards team and also has responsibilities for the Communications and Engagement Team. 

Fiona is a trustee of the Patients Association and a member of a local government Standards Advisory Committee providing advice about standards in local government.

Professional Standards

The Professional Standards team is responsible for undergraduate and pre-registration standards, quality assurance, standards, continuing professional development and a range of policy and research projects to support enhanced patient care and patient safety.

Communications and Engagement

Informing and engaging with osteopaths and patients, as well as other key stakeholders, the Communications and Engagement team helps promote high professional standards and best practice. Responsible for the GOsC's main channels of communication, the team also provides information to members of the public and to osteopaths.

Director of Fitness to Practise – Sheleen McCormack

Sheleen McCormack leads the fitness to practise department and is responsible for overseeing the management of the GOsC’s fitness to practise function and protection of title processes. Sheleen is a barrister and also acts as general counsel dealing with all legal matters including appeals, data protection, freedom of information and drafting of legislation. Sheleen currently sits as a chair on fitness to practise panels for another healthcare regulator and acts as an Independent Reviewer for a professional regulator.

The department receives any concerns or complaints about osteopaths' fitness to practise and also receives complaints against members of the Council and committees. The department is also responsible for the publication of the annual fitness to practise report.
