Council Associates

We are looking to appoint our first-ever Council Associates to join our Council. This is an opportunity for two osteopaths to contribute to the strategic direction and scrutiny of the work of the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

The Council Associates Programme seeks to identify individuals within the profession who have the potential to develop their skills and knowledge to undertake future non-executive positions, either at the GOsC or elsewhere.

The GOsC is a modern, inclusive, and innovative healthcare regulator and we consider diversity to be a strength. We wish to encourage applications from the widest possible field of candidates to help us reflect UK society. Note that this position is only open to osteopaths.

As a Council Associate, you will join the Council meetings which take place four times a year. You will be expected to prepare for these meetings by taking the time to familiarise yourself with the papers and agenda for the day. You will not be able to vote on the decisions made by full Council members, but this role will give you the opportunity to share your opinions and these views will be very much welcomed.

You would be expected to commit no more than 10 days a year and you would be paid £200 a day. We pay reasonable travel and subsistence expenses which are incurred as part of this role. The appointment starts on 1 April 2022 (initially for up to four years).

Closing date: 27 October 2021

Non-executive opportunity: lay fitness to practise panel member

We are looking for a new lay member to join our Professional Conduct Committee. This is an opportunity to become part of a fair decision-making process through the work of the GOsC Professional Conduct Committee.

The GOsC is a modern, inclusive, and innovative healthcare regulator and we consider diversity to be a strength. We wish to encourage applications from the widest possible field of candidates to help us reflect UK society. Note that this position is not open to osteopaths.

The Professional Conduct Committee hears and adjudicates concerns raised against osteopaths which have been referred to it by the Investigating Committee. These relate to professional misconduct, incompetence or where an osteopath is convicted of a criminal offence. Professional Conduct Committee members also sit on the Health Committee which considers cases where an osteopath’s health may impair their ability to practise.

You would be expected to commit no more than 20 days a year depending on caseload plus extra time for reading material and for example doing appraisals. You would be paid £306 per day. We pay reasonable travel and subsistence expenses which are incurred as part of this role. The appointment starts on 1 April 2022 (initially for up to four years).

Closing date: 11:30am on Tuesday 23 November

For further information and to apply, please read the information pack and complete Application Form 1 and Application Form 2. Alternative format versions are available from Amanda Chadwick at: councilrecruit@osteopathy.org.uk.
