GOsC Council holds first meeting of 2021

4 February 2021

The GOsC’s Council met for the first time this year and considered GOsC’s activities across the coming year and beyond.

The online meeting on 2 February was chaired by Dr Bill Gunnyeon, who is nearing completion of his first year in post, and included discussions about our approach to patient engagement; and equality, diversity and inclusion.

The Communications and Engagement Strategy for 2021-24, which sets out a transformation in our approach with an increased focus on listening, and the Business Plan and Budget for 2021-22 were among the papers approved through the course of the meeting.

Following approval of the plans, Chair Dr Bill Gunnyeon said: ‘Council was very happy to approve the Business Plan for 2021-22 which sets out the GOsC’s activities for the coming year and underpins our aims to support the profession, collaborate with our partners across the regulatory sector, and strengthen our work with patients ensuring patients are at the heart of everything we do. This commitment to patient involvement was very much reflected within the Patient Engagement paper, which we also considered at the meeting’.

Bill continued: ‘The approval of the new Communications and Engagement Strategy 2021-24 will allow the GOsC to provide greater resource to listening and engaging with all of our stakeholders – this is an important development. As part of this commitment to engagement, we will be seeking feedback on our draft Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Framework that will guide our approach to this critical aspect of our work’.

The meeting was observed by Maurice Cheng, Chief Executive of the professional membership body the Institute of Osteopathy, together with a representative of the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.

The GOsC’s Council will next meet in May 2021 and we would encourage anybody interested in attending the virtual meeting to contact us nearer the time.
