New Council members appointed
20 March 2024
The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) has appointed three new Council members who will take up office from 1 April 2024.
We are delighted to announce the appointment to Council of two lay members, Harry Barton and Gill Edelman, and one osteopath member Sandie Ennis, following an open recruitment campaign.
The new Council members will play a central role in the strategic direction and policy decisions of the GOsC, helping to make sure we fulfil our role in regulating osteopathy in the UK.
Chair Designate Jo Clift said: ‘I'm very pleased to be welcoming our three new Council members. They bring a wide range of skills and experience to GOsC, and I'm really looking forward to working with them all.’
Chief Executive and Registrar Matthew Redford said: ‘We warmly welcome our new Council members and look forward to helping them become established in their new roles. We also recognise and are grateful for the contributions made by those members of Council who are standing down from their roles.’
Stepping down from Council are lay members Sarah Botterill, Deborah Bowman and Denis Shaughnessy and osteopath member Deborah Smith. The GOsC would like to thank all members for their dedicated work while on Council.
We have one vacancy to fill which is for a lay Council member from Wales and a recruitment campaign for this position is currently underway.
All Council member appointments are confirmed by the Privy Council, using a process conducted by the GOsC in line with standards set by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.
Council meets four times a year and the next meeting is due to be held on Thursday 16 May. Members of the public, including osteopaths, are very welcome to attend these meetings. If you would like to come along please email council@osteopathy.org.uk
