Our staff carry out the work of the General Osteopathic Council and implement the Council’s policies. 

They are led by the Chief Executive and Registrar, Tim Walker, who has overall responsibility for the management of the organisation and implementation of the strategic plans approved by the Council.

Professional Standards

Keeps under review the standards of practice and education that apply to all osteopaths registered in the UK. This work includes overseeing the development of a new continuing professional development scheme designed to enable osteopaths to demonstrate their continuing fitness to practise.

Registration and Resources

Maintains the Statutory Register of Osteopaths for the benefit and protection of patients, the public and professionals.  It processes applications for registration from qualified professionals and oversees the annual renewal of registration, including administering and assuring the quality of CPD submissions. It manages the organisations financial and facilities functions, incuding room bookings.

Ensures the GOsC effectively discharges all its regulatory functions as set out in the Osteopaths Act 1993 and secondary legislation, including the fitness to practise procedures. This department receives any complaints about osteopaths' fitness to practise and oversees the process of investigating these allegations.  It also receives complaints against members of the Council and committees. It investigates and, where necessary, prosecutes individuals who describe themselves as osteopaths when not registered with the GOsC.  The department is responsible for the publication of the annual fitness to practise reports.

Ensures that the GOsC's primary stakeholders - osteopaths and the public - are kept fully aware of the organisations' activities and the standards of osteopathic regulation and practice and have the opportunity to contribute their views about regulatory, policy and practice developments. The department also actively engages with a wide range of other key stakeholders, including the media, educational institutions, students, the Department of Health, the Professional Standards Authority, international regulators and other competent authorities abroad. This department is responsible for the GOsC's main channels of communication including the websites and the osteopath journal, and provides information to members of the public and to osteopaths.

Provides direct support to the Chair, Chief Executive and Registrar, and the Council Members.  It is responsible for the organisation's human resources functions and for ensuring good corporate governance.  The Council and Executive Support Officer organises Council meetings.
