Updated guidance on studying osteopathy with a disability or health condition is published

5 September 2025

The guidance aims to support those thinking about studying osteopathy and current students who have a disability or health condition, and education providers wanting to make sure they are inclusive.

Many people with a disability or long-term health condition are able to study osteopathy. We want to ensure everyone can have a positive experience while training and registering to be an osteopath, regardless of their background, identity or protected characteristics.

Informed by feedback gathered during our consultation in 2024, this updated guidance helps prospective students with a disability or health condition understand what standards need to be met in order to gain a recognised osteopathic qualification.

The guidance also helps education providers to explore how to work with and support students to meet the standards, while helping students with health conditions or disabilities to feel well supported throughout their education.

Changes to the guidance include:

  • Updated case studies demonstrating how the standards can be put into practice within education and training settings.
  • Better reflection of the needs of neurodivergent students.

We are also working on creating ‘Easy Read’ versions of the guidance as suggested by students during the development process. This is to ensure that written information is easier to understand with short, simple sentences and imagery for readers who may struggle to engage with the full guidance.

The guidance is available in Welsh and English on our website

Cyhoeddi canllawiau wedi'u diweddaru ar astudio osteopathi gydag anabledd neu gyflwr iechyd

Nod y canllawiau yw cefnogi unigolion ag anabledd neu gyflwr iechyd sy’n ystyried astudio osteopathi, myfyrwyr presennol sydd ag anabledd neu gyflwr iechyd, a darparwyr addysg sydd am wneud yn siwr eu bod yn gynhwysol.

Mae llawer o bobl sydd ag anabledd neu gyflwr iechyd hirdymor yn gallu astudio osteopathi. Rydym ni eisiau sicrhau bod pawb yn gallu cael profiad cadarnhaol wrth hyfforddi a chofrestru i fod yn osteopath, beth bynnag fo'u cefndir, eu hunaniaeth neu eu nodweddion gwarchodedig.

Mae’r canllawiau diweddaraf hyn wedi’u llywio gan adborth a gasglwyd yn ystod ein hymgynghoriad yn 2024, ac maen nhw’n helpu darpar fyfyrwyr ag anabledd neu gyflwr iechyd i ddeall pa safonau y mae angen eu bodloni er mwyn ennill cymhwyster osteopathig cydnabyddedig.

Mae'r canllawiau hefyd yn helpu darparwyr addysg i ystyried sut i weithio gyda myfyrwyr a'u cefnogi i fodloni'r safonau, gan helpu myfyrwyr â chyflyrau iechyd neu anableddau i deimlo eu bod yn cael cefnogaeth dda drwy gydol eu haddysg.

Mae’r newidiadau i'r canllawiau yn cynnwys:

  • Diweddaru’r astudiaethau achos i ddangos sut y gellir rhoi'r safonau ar waith mewn lleoliadau addysg a hyfforddiant
  • Adlewyrchu anghenion myfyrwyr niwrowahanol yn well.

Rydym hefyd yn gweithio ar greu fersiynau 'Hawdd eu Deall' o'r canllawiau fel yr awgrymwyd gan fyfyrwyr yn ystod y broses ddatblygu. Mae hyn er mwyn sicrhau bod gwybodaeth ysgrifenedig yn haws ei deall – gyda brawddegau syml, byr a delweddau ar gyfer darllenwyr a allai ei chael hi'n anodd deall y canllawiau llawn.

Mae'r canllawiau ar gael yn Gymraeg ac yn Saesneg ar ein gwefan:
