Torben Hersborg removed from GOsC Register for sexual misconduct
30 January 2026
The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) has removed Torben Hersborg from its Register of osteopaths.
Mr Hersborg is now unable to practise as an osteopath.
The GOsC Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) determined that his conduct, in relation to eight offences involving the covert recording of women over a prolonged period, was grave. It reflected a clear and persistent course of conduct that was sexualised and predatory towards female patients and targeted groups of the general public, and in circumstances where often there was a power imbalance with many of the offences occurring during treatment and in a professional setting.
In deciding the sanction of removal, the PCC observed that the nature and extent of his offending behaviour suggested the risk Mr Hersborg posed if allowed to remain in practice was a real one. The PCC determined that the fundamental and profound materiality of Mr Herborg’s behaviour was so serious as to be fundamentally incompatible with continued registration. It was necessary to impose a sanction of removal from the Register in order to protect the public, uphold public confidence in the profession and to promote and maintain proper professional standards.
Torben Hersborg was sentenced to three years and five months in prison on 22 July 2025 at Snaresbrook Crown Court in London and is immediately and permanently on the sex offender Register. Following this sentencing, we have been awaiting documentation from the courts to proceed to the Professional Conduct Committee that took place today.
We were made aware of some of the offences and the police investigation, in late December 2024. We immediately started our fitness to practise process, and Mr Hersborg was suspended from the Register without delay following an Interim Suspension Order hearing before our Fitness to Practise Committees. On 23 January 2025, an Investigating Committee imposed an Interim Suspension Order (ISO) for the maximum period of two months, an order that was renewed by our PCC at a hearing on 14 February 2025. An ISO prevents an individual from practising osteopathy on an interim basis while an investigation takes place and was in place for Mr Hersborg until the conclusion of our fitness to practice proceedings today.
Mr Hersborg’s removal from the Register is effective from 30 January 2026. Read the full hearing decision
