New Osteopathic Practice Standards take effect

3 September 2012

New standards took effect on 1 September after publication in 2011, giving osteopaths a year to get to know them.

On 1 September 2012 new standards of practice for osteopaths came into force.

The Osteopathic Practice Standards were published in July 2011, following extensive review and consultation. The revised standards document combines the previous standards, Standard 2000 – Standard of Proficiency and the Code of Practice.

Osteopaths were sent a copy of the new standards in July of last year and, since then, the GOsC has implemented a programme of support to help osteopaths familiarise themselves with the new standards. This has included articles in The Osteopath, sessions at the 2012 regional conferences and information and advice on the GOsC’s dedicated website for osteopaths.

Further information about the standards can be found on this website at www.osteopathy.org.uk/standards/osteopathic-practice
