GOsC welcomes new Head of Regulation

The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) is pleased to welcome its new Head of Regulation David Gomez, who takes up his post this week.

David is a specialist in healthcare regulatory law who has held senior positions with a number of regulatory bodies including the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority.

While in private practice as a solicitor, David advised and acted for most of the UK health and social care regulators in relation to the investigation of fitness to practise cases; the design of regulatory policies and procedures; drafting of secondary legislation; and the conduct of appeals and judicial reviews against decisions made by regulatory committees. David also has extensive experience of designing and implementing training programmes for members of regulatory committees.

David is the author (with Joanna Glynn QC) of two leading books on healthcare regulatory law: The Regulation of Healthcare Professionals and Fitness to Practise-Law, Principle and Process, both published by Sweet & Maxwell.

As Head of Regulation, his role will involve advising and leading on all issues related to the management of the GOsC’s regulatory functions and legal affairs.

Commenting on David's appointment, Tim Walker, GOsC Chief Executive and Registrar said:

“I am delighted that David Gomez has joined the GOsC team. He will be playing a vital role in the delivery of our fitness to practise processes and also in preparing new rules for the GOsC once the Law Commissions’ proposals are approved by Parliament.”
