GOsC announces next Chair of Council

15 December 2023

Jo Clift has been appointed as the General Osteopathic Council’s next Chair of Council. Jo will take over from current Chair, Dr Bill Gunnyeon, on 1 April 2024.

Jo brings a wealth of experience to the role from working inside the heart of UK Government for over twenty years, running her own consultancy company and, until October 2023, Jo was also a Council member at the professional membership body the Institute of Osteopathy.

On her appointment, Jo said: ‘I am delighted to be joining GOsC as the incoming Chair. I have benefited greatly from osteopathic treatment myself and I am very pleased to be joining an organisation where I can support both patients and the profession.

‘I am looking forward to working closely with all our stakeholders and the GOsC team. I want to ensure that GOsC continues to grow and develop, and is seen as an excellent regulator. I would like to acknowledge the strong leadership of Bill, the outgoing Chair, who steered GOsC through the pandemic years.’

Matthew Redford, GOsC Chief Executive and Registrar, said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Jo Clift as the next Chair of Council. Jo’s career experience and sector knowledge will prove really valuable to the GOsC, and on behalf of the Senior Management Team and all our staff here at GOsC, we are very much looking forward to working together.’

Jo’s appointment was confirmed by the Privy Council, using a process conducted by the GOsC in line with standards set by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. Her term of four years runs until 31 March 2028.
