Council member for Wales appointed

6 September 2024

Dr Chris Stockport has joined the GOsC Council representing Wales from 2 September 2024.

Dr Chris Stockport, who has been appointed to serve as Lay (non-osteopath) Member on Council until 31 March 2028, will play a key role in shaping the General Osteopathic Council’s (GOsC) business plan objectives to ensure we can fulfil our statutory duties and delivery our Strategy towards 2030.

As Council Member for Wales, Chris will also play an important role in making sure the GOsC considers the needs of osteopaths, students, patients and members of the public in Wales throughout its strategic decision making.

In response to the announcement, Jo Clift, Chair of GOsC’s Council said: ‘It’s always a pleasure to welcome a new face to our Council. Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and valuable experience from his years working as a GP and pioneering initiatives within multidisciplinary healthcare in the NHS in Wales. Chris’ insight into the experiences of patients and osteopaths in Wales will, I’m sure, prove incredibly useful for Council as we continue to implement our new Strategy over the coming years.’

All Council members are appointed by the Privy Council following an open recruitment process undertaken by the GOsC and scrutinised by the Professional Standards Authority. The Council meets four times a year and the next meeting is due to be held on 20 November 2024.

Osteopaths, students, patients and members of the public are welcome to join the public meetings of Council. To come along, please email council@osteopathy.org.uk
