Whistleblowing disclosures joint report published

27 September 2021

The latest joint report on whistleblowing disclosures has been published by the General Osteopathic Council, together with seven other healthcare professional regulators

The latest annual report shows how we have handled whistleblowing disclosures and what action we took for the year to March 2021.

Published with the General Chiropractic Council, General Dental Council, General Medical Council, General Optical Council, General Pharmaceutical Council, Health and Care Professions Council, and Nursing and Midwifery Council, the report highlights the regulators’ coordinated efforts to work together to handle serious whistleblowing issues raised with us.

By providing details on the number of concerns raised and the types of action taken as a result, the report aims to provide transparency in how whistleblowing concerns are handled and raise confidence among whistleblowers that their disclosures are taken seriously.

GOsC received three whistleblowing disclosures between 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021, the same number as received last year.

In September 2019, the GOsC entered an agreement with the independent charity Victim Support, to provide a confidential support service to those involved in fitness to practise cases, including whistleblowers. Details of the service are now provided to all informants who make qualifying disclosures to us.

The Victim Support Helpline is available 24/7, every day of the year on 0300 303 1964.
