Osteopathic education provider College of Osteopaths to close and the University of Derby to continue teaching out the course

26 February 2026

The College of Osteopaths will close on 28 February 2026, and the University of Derby, the current awarding body, will now also continue to deliver the osteopathy course for students from 1 March 2026.

The General Osteopathic Council is working closely with the University of Derby to make sure the teaching out of the current course continues to meet our Standards for Education and Training, to allow students to meet our Graduate Outcomes.

Staff and students at the College of Osteopaths have been made aware of this change, and we are working closely with the University of Derby to make sure students are well supported to continue their education and to continue to deliver high quality patient care as they complete the rest of the course.

Patients who are affected by the closure can contact us to find out how to access osteopathy or treatment elsewhere.

As part of our role as the regulator of osteopathy, we ensure students receive high quality education that meets our Standards for Education and Training so students can receive a Recognised Qualification when they graduate entitling them to apply for registration with us and practice legally as an osteopath. This helps to ensure that graduates joining our Register as osteopaths meet the Osteopathic Practice Standards and can provide high quality, safe patient care.

Information for students is available from the Office for Students website.
