New Scottish Council member appointed
10 March 2026
We are delighted to announce the appointment to Council of Katie Oswell who joined the GOsC Council from 1 February 2026.
Katie has been appointed to serve as an osteopath member on Council until 31 March 2029, playing a key role in influencing the General Osteopathic Council’s strategic direction and policy decisions and helping to make sure we can deliver our statutory duties and our Strategy.
In response to her appointment, Katie said: "After 18 years in the clinic room, I’m excited to be taking on a new role within the profession. As Osteopaths, we’re used to delivering a high standard of care to our patients. I hope to replicate this standard when working with council, supporting the delivery of exceptional osteopathic care throughout the UK."
Our Chair of Council, Jo Clift, said: ‘We are very pleased to welcome Katie as our new Scottish registrant member of Council. I am confident that Katie will be a strong and committed Council member, and I am really looking forward to working with her."
Katie replaces osteopath Simeon London who served as an osteopath member on GOsC’s Council from 1 April 2017 - 31 March 2025.
All of our Council member appointments are confirmed by the Privy Council following an open, fair and transparent recruitment process carried out by the GOsC and scrutinised by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, which oversees healthcare regulation in the UK.
Our committees are made up of both osteopath and non-osteopath members to ensure our decision-making always considers both the osteopathic profession and our role in patient safety.
Our Council meets four times a year and the next public meeting will take place on 13 May 2026. Osteopaths, students, partner organisations and patients as well as members of the public are very welcome to come along to observe our Council’s public discussions.
