Give us your views about our draft practice note on consensual disposal of fitness to practise cases

10 July 2017

We are inviting views on a draft practice note about consensual disposal of fitness to practise cases under Rule 8 of the General Osteopathic Council (Professional Conduct Committee) (Procedure) Rules 2000.

'Consensual disposal’ allows for fitness to practise cases to be concluded by agreement following the investigation stage of a complaint.

It is an alternative to referring the case forward for a full hearing by the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) in cases where the PCC has reviewed the evidence and considers that the complaint should be dealt with by admonishing the osteopath.

In some instances, this may be considered to be the most appropriate and proportionate way of dealing with a complaint.

The draft Practice Note for the PCC explains how the procedure will operate. It also sets out a number of criteria to be used to identify the cases suitable for consideration under the Rule 8 procedure.

For more information and to respond to the consultation go to our consultation page at www.osteopathy.org.uk/about-us/our-work/consultations-and-events/consensual-disposal-under-rule-8/

The deadline for responses is 4 September 2017.
