Amanda was born and brought up in Bristol and trained as a Nurse in the Army qualifying in 1981. Amanda trained as a District nurse and then worked in  various nursing and management roles within Health and Social Care including District Nursing in inner City Bristol, a stint in the Lake District with Outward Bound and in various National Roles at both the Department of Health and most recently at the Royal College of Nursing as Professional Lead for End of Life and Long-Term Conditions.

Amanda served as a Non-executive Director from 2017-2021 at Sirona Care and Health and subsequently as Chair of the Board there from April 2021 to August 2024. Sirona is a Community Interest Company working under licence to the NHS and one of the largest Community Health providers in England, delivering Adult and Children’s Community NHS services across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Amanda is Trustee of several charities including The Hospital of St John, Heytesbury, providing independent living accommodation. Also, the Wessex Multiple Sclerosis Centre which offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as well as counselling, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and supported activities to people living with MS and their families and carers.

Amanda has lived with a couple of chronic conditions for some years and has regular osteopathy to keep herself mobile as well as having weekly oxygen therapy.
