Taking forward the development of the osteopathic profession

15 November 2012

Representatives of the key osteopathic organisations met to discuss the future development of the profession.

Representatives of the British Osteopathic Association, the Council of Osteopathic Educational Institutions, the General Osteopathic Council, the National Council for Osteopathic Research and the Osteopathic Alliance met on 7 November to discuss the future development of the profession.

The meeting was a follow-up to the regional events that took place earlier in the year, which were attended by over 800 osteopaths.

Those present at the meeting considered that continued collaboration between these organisations was critical for the future development of the profession. No one organisation will be pre-eminent amongst them and there will be a shared leadership.

The group agreed that there was a need to develop an overarching vision for the future of the profession, from which a programme of work would later emerge. The next meeting will be in January 2013 when the group will propose such a vision and a range of activities for consideration by the wider profession.
