Share your views on our draft guidance for students with a disability or health condition

We are inviting views on revised versions of our guidance for prospective applicants or students with a disability or health condition
A key aspect of work at the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) is ensuring the quality of programmes that lead to graduates being eligible to apply to join the GOsC register and practise as osteopaths in the UK, whilst also ensuring that the osteopathic profession is diverse and represents the society that it serves.
Our guidance helps prospective students with a disability or health condition understand what osteopathic standards need to be met in order to gain a qualification. It helps education providers to explore how to work with and support students to meet the standards.’ It also makes clear that many people with a disability or health condition enjoy successful careers within healthcare with or without adjustments to support their practice.
We’re inviting feedback on the guidance, as well as this, we are also inviting views on ‘Easy Read’ versions which were created in response to initial pre-consultation feedback from students, educators, and an equality and diversity consultant to make the document easier to understand and more accessible.
It is important that this guidance is fit for purpose to ensure that prospective applicants have the right information to decide whether osteopathic education and training is right for them and to help educational institutions be inclusive and creative in their approach in dialogue with students whilst also ensuring standards will be met.
All feedback will contribute to enhancements to the final guidance which will ensure that students with health conditions or disabilities are well supported throughout their education.
We welcome views from all, including osteopaths, educators, students and key partners across the profession.
The deadline for responses to this consultation is Friday 29 November 2024.
