Osteopaths share their views in CPD survey

7 November 2019

Osteopaths have a greater understanding of the new CPD scheme and the majority feel they understand how to plan across the three-year cycle, according to the results of GOsC’s third annual CPD Survey.

The Survey, which launched on 18 March 2019 and ran until 9 July 2019, is the third of its kind to date.

A key finding of the survey is that understanding of the new CPD scheme and its elements has increased over the past year.

Of the osteopaths who took part in the survey, 75% said that they feel they understand the scheme adequately, which is a 12% increase from the previous year. Of this 75%, almost 90% said they now understand how to plan across the three-year cycle; 82% understand how to link CPD to the Osteopathic Practice Standards (OPS); and 79% said that they understand the communication and consent area of the new scheme.

‘Thank you to everyone who took part in our 2019 CPD Survey and for taking the time to provide such rich responses’ said Dr Stacey Clift, the GOsC’s Research and Policy Officer.

‘Now that we have the results of this third CPD Survey, we are getting a real sense of how the CPD scheme is starting to influence patterns of CPD. Your responses provide useful evidence as to how osteopaths are approaching the new scheme and professional development generally. The responses also give us here at the GOsC a better understanding of the impact the new CPD scheme will have as it’s implemented, enabling us to offer tailored support and resources to osteopaths based on you telling us what you need.’

Many osteopaths completing the CPD Survey have also used it to plan their up-and-coming CPD – using the CPD Survey as a ‘health check’ on the CPD they have undertaken over the past 12 months.

A further telephone survey is planned to take place in the coming months to explore some of the issues highlighted in the survey results. Read more about the survey findings on page 14 of the September/October issue of The Osteopath.
