Northern Ireland Council member appointed

4 July 2022

Dr Patricia McClure has joined the GOsC Council representing Northern Ireland from 1 July 2022.

Dr Patricia McClure, who has been appointed to serve as a Lay Member on Council until 31 March 2026, will play a key role in shaping GOsC’s strategic aims and business plan objectives to ensure we can continue to fulfil our statutory duties to regulate standards of osteopathic care in the UK.

In response to the appointment, Dr McClure said: ‘I am delighted to have been appointed to the General Osteopathic Council as the Council member for Northern Ireland. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with colleagues on Council to promote, develop and maintain the professional standards of the osteopathy profession and ensure the protection of the public through innovative, strategic governance. GOsC is acknowledged as a reputable, highly performing health profession regulator and I am honoured to have been appointed into this very important role.’

Dr Bill Gunnyeon CBE, Chair of GOsC Council, said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Patricia to Council to fill the vacancy arising from the departure of Dr Joan Martin. Patricia joins us not only as a member from Northern Ireland, but as someone with a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience of governance and regulation gained at the Royal College of Occupational Therapists as well as extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate education. I am looking forward to working with Patricia as we continue to support the osteopathic profession to deliver high-quality care while also fulfilling our duty to protect patients and the public.’

All Council members are appointed by the Privy Council following an open recruitment process undertaken by the GOsC and scrutinised by the Professional Standards Authority. The Council meets four times a year and the next meeting is due to be held on 14 July 2022.
