How osteopaths practise

1 November 2010

A survey into how osteopaths practise is being carried out to inform the development of the GOsC revalidation scheme.

As part of the development of our revalidation scheme for osteopaths and assessing its impact upon osteopaths we have commissioned the company KPMG to carry out work looking at how osteopaths practise.

KPMG is now collecting data about this in order to identify a baseline ensuring that all relevant factors, including information about hard-to-reach groups among the profession, have been appropriately considered.

This will help inform the design of a pilot scheme for revalidation which will be evaluated before the implementation of the revalidation scheme across the whole osteopathic profession.

KPMG is sending a detailed questionnaire to a representative sample of registrants and will also be gathering additional qualitative information from a number of focus groups. As we are keen to ensure that all osteopaths have the opportunity to contribute, so we are also any others who wish to do so to complete a shorter survey on the o zone, our dedicated website for registrants.

This survey is not designed in any way to examine or assess the scope of practice of osteopaths and no individuals will be identified in the resulting reports from KPMG. Any information received will be analysed by KPMG and will be provided to the GOsC only in summarised, anonymised form.

The surveys will close on 22 November 2010.
