Dr Denis Shaughnessy
Dr Denis Shaughnessy is a GOsC lay member of Council, Chair of the Audit Committee, and member of the People Committee
Denis is an independent consultant who works with public bodies or their major suppliers to implement large programmes of change. After completing a PhD in theoretical physics, Denis worked in large IT businesses, implementing innovative projects in local government, public utilities and particularly the NHS.
He led a five-year programme to implement a national email service, whichconnected virtually every organisation in the NHS.
Over the last ten years he has worked mainly on projects funded by the Department of Health, including the development of national assessments and methods for recruiting doctors into NHS training posts.
Denis lives in the New Forest, where he has chaired his local council for more than five years. Through his work he has gained a firsthand appreciation of the importance of the role of healthcare regulators.
