General Osteopathic Council signs contracts for sale of headquarter building

We have now reached an important milestone in the sale of our headquarter building with contracts being signed. This is a significant moment for us.

Over the past year, Council has been carefully considering how best to ensure our long-term financial sustainability. Selling the building is a key part of this work.

As the GOsC has charitable status, this decision was made in line with the stringent requirements of charity legislation and guidance, which places clear responsibilities on trustees to act in the interests of beneficiaries (which for the GOsC means osteopaths and patients) and to secure best value. Council reviewed independent reports, explored options and considered the GOsC’s future needs before agreeing to proceed.

While financial sustainability is central to this decision, this move also supports and aligns with something we care deeply about: being more present across the UK. Moving away from a single headquarter site gives us greater flexibility to work regionally.

We are developing plans to hold some Council meetings in different parts of the country and to engage with those local regional groups to encourage connection (in addition to our ongoing and increasing regional engagement outside of these meetings). We hope this move will make it easier for osteopaths, students, patients and partners to observe our discussions and decision-making, in person.

As we prepare to leave the building, we are continuing to manage a smooth transition and we are focused on maintaining continuity in all of our regulatory work.
