It is important that we are aware of the work being done by other regulators on revalidation.
KPMG spoke to the Health Professions Council, the General Optical Council, the General Medical Council, the General Pharmaceutical Council and the General Chiropractic Council in order to gather information from them about how they are preparing for revalidation. They also consulted the The British Osteopathic Association to canvass wider views from the profession. This has helped us to build a picture of the alternative methodologies for revalidation in the context of different professions, and the associated timescales and progress to date.
The result of this work is a report from KPMG on the work undertaken by other regulators to outline costs, benefits, financial and regulatory risks.
Ther report incudes a useful set of recommendation and supports our move towards piloting and also the work being developed by the Assessment Expert Team on a set of 'tools' to assist osteopaths with the revalidation process.
There is a significant amount of work taking place by other healthcare regulators around the planning of revalidation schemes, and many are working to a similar timescale and level of rigor as the GOsC. There are also many good lessons to take from the other regulators in terms of ensuring schemes are proportionate and not overly burdensome on the profession.
