To ensure that our revalidation scheme is fit for purpose and meets the needs of osteopaths in practice, the scheme's development is being informed by a range of research projects.
We appointed a firm of independent consultants, KPMG, to undertake an assessment of the proposed revalidation scheme. As part of this work they took a detailed look at the range of practice undertaken by osteopaths. This gave us a picture of the way in which osteopaths practise, to ensure that the emerging revalidation scheme and the pilot are tailored appropriately to their practice.
As part of this work KPMG have met with a number of the other regulators, the British Osteopathic Association, members of the GOsC Regional Communications Network and held focus groups with regional osteopathic groups.
There is further information about KPMG's work in this section:
Other current research projects, such as the research into patients' expectations and experience of osteopathic treatment (the OPEn project) and the series of studies on adverse events, have also provided helpful information for developing the revalidation scheme.
For further information about these and other research, see our Research section.
