…about our new draft guidance for the GOsC’s Health Committee on conditions that may be imposed on an osteopath’s practice.

The GOsC’s Health Committee considers cases where an osteopath’s physical or mental health is alleged to be seriously impairing their ability to practise. Where relevant, it can require osteopaths to comply with certain conditions while they continue to practise.

Conditions of practice are imposed to protect the public while allowing the osteopath to receive health treatment. The conditions imposed must address the specific risks or shortcomings identified, and the osteopath must be able to understand what they are expected to do and the timescale for compliance.

Working with committee members and representatives from the Institute of Osteopathy, we have drafted guidance for use in cases where the Health Committee decides to impose conditions of practice. The draft guidance sets out the questions that the committee should ask itself when formulating conditions to impose, and provides sample wording for those conditions.

We would like to hear your views about the draft guidance. Read it and respond to the consultation at: www.osteopathy.org.uk/about-us/our-work/consultations-and-events/formulating-conditions-of-practice-orders/.

The closing date is 6 October 2015.
