The GOsC undertakes work to increase its knowledge of the market for osteopathy as well as trends in the development of the osteopathic profession.

The GOsC commissioned surveys of Public Awareness of Osteopathy (2001) and the Snapshot Shot (2001) of a "day in the life" of the osteopathic practice reveal some important trends in the development of the profession.

Information was sought about patients' age, gender, presenting symptoms, osteopathic evaluations and treatment techniques, and about the osteopath - age, gender and time in practice.
