Hearings held by the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) are usually open to the public and press, unless there is a special reason why some or all of the hearing needs to be held in private.
A hearing is similar to court proceedings and if you have made a complaint you will probably be asked to come as a witness, and give evidence on oath.
After hearing all the evidence, the PCC will withdraw to decide in private whether any allegation has been proved. They will announce their decisions in the public hearing.
Further information about attending hearings is available in our leaflet Hearings before the GOsC Professional Conduct Committee: Information for the Public and Press.
Information about the procedures that should be followed during the fitness to process is set out in the Notice to Osteopaths and Legal Representatives. The PCC held a consultation from July to September 2011 about changing the way witnesses give evidence at fitness to practise hearings. Following the consultation it was decided not to make any changes. There is further information about the consultation and responses on the page for Legal representatives.
