Entry Requirements |
Academic requirements for entry are stipulated by the training institutions - contact the individual colleges for details. Basic academic requirements generally include five GCSE passes (grade A-C or SCE equivalent, including English and Maths, with two good pass grades at A-level or three Highers - preferably in chemistry or physics, and biology or human biology). |
Entry requirements for mature students are more flexible, but you may be required to complete an access course prior to entering the accredited degree programme. |
Along with an interest in science and medicine, you will need to be sympathetic, tactful, reassuring and a good listener. Osteopaths also rely on good observational skills, sound judgement and the ability to give clear explanations and advice. You should also be physically fit. |
Operating in the private sector will also require basic business skills, including some knowledge of accounting, marketing and the management of premises. |
GOsC registration requirements include a medical certificate of fitness and a declaration of any spent or unspent convictions. Osteopathic training institutions may therefore require a Criminal Records Bureau clearance on application. |
