On 1 July 2011, we published a revised set of practice standards of competence, conduct and ethics known as Osteopathic Practice Standards (OPS). The OPS will be published for a period of 1 year and 2 months before the standards become effective on 1 September 2012.
The OPS outlines the standards of practice that we require all osteopaths to meet in order to be entered on our Register. Osteopaths must continue to meet these standards in order to maintain their registration and practise lawfully in the UK. Any assessments we undertake will use the OPS as the basis of the assessment criteria against which participants are assessed.
The aim of this project is to ensure that all GOsC registration assessments are carried out against the new OPS after 1 September 2012. During the period between publication and implementation of the OPS the registration assessment processes will need to be benchmarked against the OPS, the supporting guidance and assessment criteria will need to be revised and the assessors will need to be trained.
Tenders are being invited to conduct this work on our behalf, working closely with us and other key stakeholders, such as the range of GOsC assessors currently employed.
